Hefeng Town

Overview

Hefeng Town lies in the south of Lishui District. It borders Jingqiao Town and Honglan Subdistrict to the north-east, Qiqiao and Gubai subdistricts of Gaochun District to the south, and Shijiu Lake to the west. The administrative divisions page gives its area as 190.23 sq km, with 6 residents' committees and 6 villagers' committees; its seat is at Shuangpaishi residents' committee. On the eight areas listed on that page, this is the largest unit in the district.

Origin of the name

The town profile page records one account: a phoenix, admiring the scenery of Shijiu Lake, came to rest on Qishan, and from this the name Hefeng is said to derive. The page presents this expressly as legend rather than as documentary scholarship, and this entry reproduces it as such.

Two sets of figures for area

• Administrative divisions page: 190.23 sq km.
• Town profile page: 198 sq km, of which 100 sq km is Shijiu Lake.

The two differ by about 8 sq km. The difference is likely to lie in whether the lake waters are counted and in the statistical basis used. Each figure is given with its own source; neither is merged into the other or discarded.

Traditional villages within the town

A district government reply of November 2025, giving figures to the end of 2024, records that the town "has 1 national-level traditional village and 3 provincial-level traditional villages". Checked against the published lists, these correspond to:

• National level: Zhangjia Village, in the sixth batch of Chinese traditional villages (March 2023).
• Provincial level: Zhujia, in Zhangjia Village (first batch, 2020); Luoshan (sixth batch, 2023); Yangjia Village, in Sunjiaxiang (sixth batch, 2023).

The eighth batch, published in August 2025, also includes Chenguo, in Wuqiao Village. That is later than the reply's reference date and so is not counted among the three.

Points of doubt

• The reason for the two area figures is not explained in any document held here.
• Zhangjia Village is both an administrative village and a name on the traditional village list, while Zhujia is a settlement within it; the two have separate entries in the villages section of this library.
